More of those Calligraphy sketches

Taken with a camera phone.  Um, whoo-hoo?
I wish I was posting more good art, but for now these'll have to do.

Still getting the hang of this style.  This one's head really bugs me.

 It's a cat.

I seem to have problems with jaws.

I think I ruined this one with the red flowers.  Beard!

Ever Wonder What Minerals Look Like Under a Microscope?

If you have, then fear not!  By merely scrolling down, you can discover the answer!
(These are drawings from my first "Optics and Spectroscopy of Minerals" lab)

A grain of Quartz in Cross Polarized Light (XPL) showing Undulating Extinction (See how the colours are different with rotation?  Yeah, that's what that's showing.)

This one is showing something called a "Becke Line" which is a line of light that appears between two minerals in Plain Polarized Light (PPL).
It is really bloody hard to draw a line of light with pencil crayons.

An opaque mineral grain.  ...Meaning I got marks for drawing a little black blob.

Garnet, in XPL and PPL, to demonstrate that it is isotropic.
I was running out of time by this point - can you tell?  XP  Also, the XPL one demonstrates why I wish we were allowed to use markers for solid black portions, rather than pencil crayons.

Okay, not the most exciting sketch post ever, but.... whatever.

Sketches and doodles

Small sketching binge last night.  Found out that my scanner and photoshop really hate my green pencil for some reason.  Anyway.

Quick self-portrait.  I'm not that thin.
Felt compelled to draw a kookaburra.  I <3 Kookaburras.

I also <3 foxes.

Yeah, sorry about this.  Terrible scan quality and darkening the shit out of it was the only way you could see anything on this sketch.  For the prompt "Crazy Wig" over at  PE.
So that's the sketch binge.  But because it's the start of a new year, you get to see the first of my school doodles!  (Joy of joys!)

This one started out as a microscope.  Then it turned into a robot with a top hat and a cane.

And a margin tattoo doodle.
G'night all!

"Calligraphy" art

So, the other day at D&D, my friend Kevin was getting frustrated at an assignment where he had to do art with 'calligraphy' lines.
Anyway.
I thought it sounded like fun, so I gave it a go.  The results weren't the nicest things I've ever done, that's for sure, but I think it was a good exercise.  It was smooth, and fast, and not something about which I needed to care about.

I tossed a bunch, but here are the ones I saved.

When I started, I wanted to do big, thick lines, and was using a big, thick brush, and painting on black construction paper (with details being done with a smaller brush).  None of these turned out well, but I find that I sort of like this image of Sprot, for some reason.

Then I moved on to just using the thin brush.  Sprot again.

A dragon.  (Painting on cardstock now, hence the various background colours)

Nyx.

Quare.  Not sure faces really work with this, but hey.

Quare again.  I think I hate this one, actually.  Not sure why I'm posting it.

Quare again.

Um... Quare's finger.

Anyway, these are fun.  I'll probably do more, later.

ARTS

Narcissus, a character of Mystcloud's, for the PE's Makeover exchange.

My character Taurus - another attempt at being inspired by Greek statuary. I don't like this one as much as the Badri one. (I think Taurus doesn't do heroic poses well, and so I had trouble being "inspired".)

Art Dump

My character Aldra - in a bit more of a cartoony style than I usually do.

Emanhotep for Herisheft as part of PE's swimsuit exchange.

Jude, for Skardash. PE round 80.

My character Badri... NSFW due to artistic nudity.

Eel for Mirre, PE round 79.

My character Djinn.

Kichikenebola for Liz. PE round 78.

Prep sketch for a Perseus piece I'm working on.
